The Last Lecture

A friend of mine posted a link to a video on Facebook.

It was entitled "The Last Lecture Before His Death" or something. I thought that it was a video of someone giving a lecture right before he dies in the middle of the lecture hall.

Intrigued, I watched the 10-minute video.

Fast forward 10 minutes later and I achieved several epiphanies.

I was thinking in a different perspective.

What was so interesting and mind blowing about that video?

The lecturer in the video is Professor Randy Pausch. I'm no homo but I must say he had pretty good looks. He was brimming with energy and confidence.

Then he started telling his story. Turns out he has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, and has only 6 months of good health left.

But he was so happy and cheerful! He looked so healthy! He even did several pushups on the stage!

I thought to myself, how can someone, knowing that his days are limited to 6 months, be so full of himself and so optimistic?

He talked about achieving his childhood dreams.

He talked about how his parents enabled him to achieve his dreams.

He talked about how his football coach gave him a lesson in life he would bring to his grave.

He talked about everyone who inspired him.'

Everything he said he was giving me a new perspective in life.

So after that video I managed to download his book, "The Last Lecture"

It covers very important life lessons, things that I usually overlook, the essence of time, achieving dreams, adventures, etc.

It was also his autobiography, starting from how he was such a nerd when he was a kid, to how he got his doctorate and finally how he managed to marry the woman of his dreams and have three amazing children.

It also tells us how he tries to battle the cancer, how he run into metaphorical brick walls in his life, how he used to be an obnoxious, arrogant young adult, and how he handled these problems.

It tells us how we should enjoy our life to the fullest even though we know our days are numbered.

But most of all, it was a way to communicate with his children and wife. His children were too young to understand what he wants to teach them and what he wants them to do with their life. It was a way to show how much he loved them and cared about them. He wants them to know of what he has accomplished in his life, because children always needs reassurance that their parents did great things.

Dr Randy Pausch passed away in July 2008. He contributed much to computer science and virtual reality. He was also one of the forefathers of Alice, a software that teaches programming to children. He used to work as an Imagineer in Disney World. He was a superb lecturer and an even better family man.

God bless his family.

And I strongly suggest you watch the "The Last Lecture" videos and maybe even read the book.

As I am doing a degree in digital arts, I deeply appreciate his contributions to the Virtual Reality, Building Virtual Worlds, Disney World and in programming. I wish I could meet him.

Norwegian Recycling - How Six Songs Collide

Lyrics | Norwegian Recycling lyrics - How Six Songs Collide lyrics

I've been YouTubing alot lately.

I can confidently say "YouTube, cure for boredom."

Very very good mashup! Loving it.

I especially like the part when Angela Ammon's - Always Getting Over You is mashed in:

Was I not enough stimulation
Hit by a brick the other day
Just when I thought that I'm okay
You didn't like my conversation
I can't come up with something new
It doesn't really matter what I do
So here's my observation
You could never see it through my eyes
And I'm too tired to try

I guess I can relate to this lyrics well.

Sidenote, I MISS CLAIRE, JIALI, RONALD!

screw you shen

Dr. Horrible!

Okay, Mr Oxymoron here gave me a link a couple of days ago to this www.drhorrible.com . It's a sing-a-long blog posted straight to the internet made during the Writers' Strike by Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer series.)

It stars Neil Patrick Harris (Barney in How I Met Your Mother), Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day. This thingy consists of 3 acts, 1st one released on the 15th July, 2nd one on 17th, and the final one on 19th. They took down everything after 20th July, where they will see the response and will probably make it into a movie/series/whatever if there is a good response. Also, the 3 acts will be available to be bought from iTunes.

It's about this Dr. Horrible aspiring to get into the Evil League of Evil, led by Bad Horse, the thoroughbred of sin. This depicts that sometimes, not all Superheroes or Supervillains are cool (Wait till you see Bad Horse)

Pretty awesome. Many might get bored during the beginning of the 1st act thinking "WTF IS THIS? GIMME BARNEY STINSON AND HIS LEGENDARY STUFF" and whatnot, but listen carefully and it's actually filled with sarcasm and dim-witted humour. And then the good stuff begins, the singing.

Didn't know the Neil Patrick Harris used to be on Broadway singing in Rent. Good voice, reminds me of Princeton's voice in Avenue Q.

All in all a fantastic 40 minute thingy (All 3 acts combined). And being the cheapskate that we all are, I managed to find all 3 acts on another site so I'll embed all below. Enjoy the awesomeness.

I WANT A PET!

I used to have a bitch (Shen don't perasan) back in my old house in Malaysia. I was a young and naive boy. I didn't know how to take care of her. She became really ferocious. And the weird thing was her diet was only milk and bread. She had a body to die for man. Curvy curvy. I bet all the other dogs envy her. But since she's so fierce I had to give her away.

I should have trained her well. =(.

Also, I used to have tortoises, fishes and hamsters.

You see, I really like animals (Bet most of you are like "HAHAHA YOU'RE A PANDA YOURSELF!". Whatever Moron. =.=) I liked watching Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. Trust me when I say I rather watch Animal Planet than watching a live football match (Unless of course its a major match which includes Man Utd kicking the livers out of the Liverfool players. Then they'll just be fools. Hmm.)

So now I have my own bachelor pad in Melbourne. Now I need a best friend! Huhuhu. Say Hi to my new pet, Pandog!

SO CUTE!

I Wish La ._. Can hardly take care of myself. Will definitely get one which looks like this next time though! Haha.

Just a simple update

Missed a toe?

One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight Nine! I have nine toes! Oops I have ten toes!...I missed a toe.. nevermind. Futile effort in being lame..

Ahh. Mistletoes. We've heard so much about them. These little parasitic plants are often associated with Christmas and we're a few days away! And of course the all famous Harry Potter and Cho Chang kiss under the mistletoe! So what's with kissing under the mistletoe?

I found a good explanation based on the Norse mythology! The God Odin and Goddess Frigg have 2 sons, Baldr and Höðr (pronounced Hod, I think) and Höðr was blind. Frigg loved Bladr alot. She took steps to ensure that nothing would ever harm him by way of earth, fire, water, or air.

However, the mistletoe was not under any of this category. Loki, a mischief maker/evil spirit, found out about this single weakness, and made a missile out of mistletoe (Lol geddit geddit? Missile out of Mistletoe! Should be called mistle! -_- nvm). He then passed the missile to Höðr and guided Höðr to shoot Baldr since he was blind.

Ever since then, Frigg stated the mistletoe would never harm anyone again and made it a symbol of love and made the promise to bestow a kiss upon everyone who passed beneath it!

Cool huh? So bring a mistletoe around when you go clubbing or something. Then you can use it as an excuse to kiss a hot chick!

P/S: Check for Adam's apple on the "hot" chick.

Left or Right?

Just back from a short vacation! Will blog about that tomorrow or something. Anyway, I was browsing my GE forums when I came across this.

Look at the picture.
Is it moving clockwise or anti-clockwise?

If you see ANTI-CLOCKWISE
Left-brain dominated people tend to be more logical and analytical in their thinking and usually excel at mathematics and word skills. Left-brain are verbal and have little trouble expressing themselves in words.

If you see CLOCKWISE
Right brain is associated with artistic ability like singing, painting, writing poetry. Right brain dominated people rely more on their intuition Right brain know how they feel but have trouble expressing it in words.

After reading the many responses on the forum, I found out that there are also some who can see both clockwise and anti-clockwise, depending on whether they focus or not.

For me, its CLOCKWISE! Thus my pathetic Specialist Mathematics marks.

Which direction do you see it going?
